This event introduced participants to modern bioinformatics, machine learning and AI tools and methods for processing RNA-seq data.
Next generation sequencing experiments have allowed among others the identification and the quantification of numerous genes and non coding RNA molecules! Statistical and AI based techniques can inform us about differentially expressed genes and gene signatures which are potential diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic biomarkers.
In this webinar, the attendees were introduced to well established steps in the preprocessing and differential expression analysis of RNA-Seq NGS data, including quality control, alignment and quantification! Modern AI based approaches for the identification of biomarkers from RNA-Seq data was also demonstrated. This way, attendees gained insight into transforming their NGS data into knowledge.

Aigli Korfiati is a software engineer with MSc in Computer Science and Engineering from the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics, University of Patras (Greece). She is currently a PhD candidate in School of Medicine, University of Patras, specializing on Computational Methods for Transcriptomics Data Analysis. She is an experienced developer and bioinformatician. Since 2012 she has worked as a researcher, software and web programmer in four Development and R&D European and Greek National Projects dealing with deep learning based object detection in imaging data, high performance computing, cloud and parallelization techniques and machine learning based web platforms.
Since 2011 (the last year of her undergraduate studies), she has focused on the design and development of machine learning algorithms for bioinformatics applications, having 13 publications in the proceedings of international conferences, 9 in journals and two patents. At 2013 with her colleagues, they founded InSyBio Ltd., a biotechnology and bioinformatics company which delivers a cloud-based software suite for intelligent analysis of biological data and machine-learning based biomarkers discovery.
